    What to do next

    How it works

Upload WebP files and click Convert. You get GIFs that open in older programs and message boards. Several files can be converted at once and downloaded as a ZIP.

    Things to know

Animated WebP files are saved as a still GIF of the first frame. GIF is a 256-color format, so photo edges can look a little rough.

An old browser that cannot open WebP will fail to convert. Use a current Chrome, Safari or Edge.

    Frequently asked questions

Does an animated WebP become an animated GIF?

No. The browser only exposes the first frame, so the result is a still GIF. If you upload an animated WebP, the result card tells you.

    The colors look slightly different.

GIF holds at most 256 colors, so images with many colors, like photos, can show banding. For photos, WebP to JPG gives a better result.

    Is the transparent background kept?

Yes. With Keep transparent, transparent areas stay transparent in the GIF. GIF has no partial transparency, so soft shadows can look rough. In that case pick the white background.

Do my files get uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside this browser and your files never leave your device. Results disappear when you close the page, so use the save button to download them.
