Convert PNG images to smaller WebP files in your browser. Transparency is kept, nothing is uploaded, and it is free.
Result
Upload a PNG and click Convert. The WebP file appears here. Several images can be downloaded together as a ZIP.
What to do next
How it works
Upload your PNG files, pick a quality and size, then click Convert. For images going on a blog or website, resizing to 1920px or 1280px on the longest side makes the file much smaller.
PNG transparency carries over to WebP, so this works for logos and icons too.
Things to know
WebP saving uses a browser feature. Some older versions of Safari cannot save WebP. If that happens you will see a message, and Chrome or Edge will work.
Images that are already heavily compressed may not shrink much. If the result is larger than the original, the result card says so.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will the file be?
PNGs that contain photos usually shrink to less than half. PNGs made of flat icons and shapes change little and can even get bigger, so compare the sizes in the result card.
Where does WebP open?
Current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and most blog and store editors. Older programs, some messaging apps and some government sites may reject it, so JPG is the safer choice for official submissions.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent areas of the PNG stay transparent.
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs inside this browser and your files never leave your device. Results disappear when you close the page, so use the save button to download them.
