Compress images online

Reduce JPG, PNG and WebP file size without a visible quality loss. Hit a target size like 100KB, 500KB or 1MB. Runs in your browser, free.

Drop JPG, PNG, WebP files here or choose files.

    • Up to 30MB and 50 megapixels per image
    • Up to 20 images at a time
    • Target size stops at quality 40 and a 400px long side. If the target cannot be met, the tool tells you

Only images larger than this are scaled down. Smaller images are never enlarged.

If you pick a target size, the quality is found automatically.

PNG has no quality setting, so it only shrinks when the dimensions shrink. To hit a target size, choose JPG (transparent areas turn white) or WebP.

Finds the highest quality that lands under this size. If even the lowest quality is too big, the long side is reduced step by step.

    What to do next

    How it works

Add photos, pick a maximum size and quality, then click Convert. For chat apps and blogs, 1280px at quality 80 is a good default.

The result card shows the original and the new size side by side. If you do not like it, change the settings and click again. Your original files are never modified.

    Hitting a target size

When an upload form or an application portal demands a file under a certain number of KB, pick a target size. 100KB, 300KB, 500KB and 1MB are built in, and you can type any other value. You do not need to pick a quality; the tool finds the highest one that fits under the target.

If even the lowest quality is too big, the long side is reduced by 10% at a time and the search runs again. The result card shows the quality and dimensions used and whether the target was met. If it cannot be met at quality 40 and a 400px long side, you get the actual size instead.

    Things to know

Files that are already small can get bigger when re-saved. In that case the original is returned and the card says so. Files already under the target size are not re-saved either.

PNG is lossless and has no quality setting, so it only shrinks when the dimensions shrink. To hit a target size, save as JPG or WebP. Transparent areas turn white in JPG and stay transparent in WebP.

The EXIF orientation of phone photos is applied when saving, but location and camera metadata are not carried into the result. That makes this a quick way to strip location data before sharing.

    Frequently asked questions

    Will the quality drop noticeably?

At 1920px and quality 80 the result is hard to tell from the original on a screen. For print, choose quality 90 and keep the original size.

Why do PNG files barely shrink?

PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting. The file only gets smaller when the dimensions do. If the photo does not need a transparent background, save it as JPG and it will be much smaller.

How does the target size work?

First the tool does a binary search over quality 95 to 40 at the current dimensions and keeps the highest quality that lands under the target. If the lowest quality is still too big, it reduces the long side by 10% at a time and searches again. Files already under the target are returned as they are.

I picked a target size and it was not met.

The tool does not go below quality 40 or a 400px long side. If the target cannot be met within those limits, you get the smallest result and its size in KB. Raise the target a little, or for PNG switch the output format to JPG or WebP.

What is the email attachment limit?

Most work email systems allow 10 to 25MB per message, and Gmail allows around 25MB. For ten photos, keeping each under 1MB is safe. Pick 1MB as the target size.
