What to do next
How it works
Upload a GIF and click Convert. The APNG keeps the frame order and timing. You can check that it plays in the result card.
Things to know
The source GIF has 256 colors, so converting to APNG does not add colors. What it does is stop further quality loss when you edit or composite the image later.
For very long or large GIFs, only the first part is converted to protect memory, and the result card says so.
Frequently asked questions
What is APNG?
An animated PNG. Unlike GIF it supports partial transparency and unlimited colors. It animates in current Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. Older programs show only the first frame.
The file extension is .png. Is that right?
Yes. APNG uses the same .png extension as a regular PNG. Browsers play the animation, and programs that do not know APNG show the first frame.
The file is larger than the GIF.
All colors is lossless and can be larger than the GIF. Pick 256 colors and the file is usually about the same size or smaller.
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs inside this browser and your files never leave your device. Results disappear when you close the page, so use the save button to download them.
