Add a border to an image

Add a border of any thickness and color to a photo, square or rounded corners. Runs in your browser, free, no upload.

Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP files here or choose files.

    • Up to 30MB and 50 megapixels per file
    • 20 images at a time
    • Phone photo orientation (EXIF) is applied when saving

Percent is based on the photo's shorter side, so photos of different sizes get a similar-looking border.

    %

Outside keeps the photo intact and enlarges the canvas. Inside keeps the size and covers the edges with the border.

Keep original saves JPG as JPG and PNG as PNG. GIF and BMP are saved as PNG.

    What to do next

    How it works

Upload photos, pick a thickness, color and placement, then click Convert. Thickness can be set in pixels or as a percentage of the photo's shorter side. The same border can go on several photos at once.

Add outside leaves the photo untouched and adds the border around it. Draw inside keeps the photo size and covers the edges with the border.

    Things to know

With Add outside, the result grows by twice the thickness in width and height. If you need an exact size, choose Draw inside.

Transparent corners are kept only in PNG.

    Frequently asked questions

I want to post to Instagram without the photo getting cropped.

Instagram can crop tall or wide photos. This tool adds the same thickness on all four sides, so it does not change the ratio to a square. To fit several photos into one frame, try the collage tool.

    Can I use any color?

Yes. Under Border color choose Custom and type a color code such as #ff6600.

    What happens outside rounded corners?

Saved as PNG, the area outside the rounded corners is transparent. JPG has no transparency, so it is filled with white. A JPG set to Keep original is saved as PNG when corners are rounded.

Do my files get uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs inside this browser and your files never leave your device. Results disappear when you close the page, so use the save button to download them.
