What to do next
How it works
Each payment type has a percentage rate and, for most of them, a fixed fee of 49 cents per US dollar transaction. The fee is the amount times the rate plus the fixed fee. If the buyer is outside the US, PayPal adds 1.5% to its commercial rates.
Receive mode works backward from the amount you want to keep and rounds up to the next cent.
Things to keep in mind
PayPal updates its fee page from time to time. The rates here come from the version last updated October 1, 2026. Check the official page before you price something with thin margins.
Sending money to friends and family from a bank account or PayPal balance is free, but using that option for a sale removes purchase protection for the buyer and can break PayPal's terms.
