How it works
The calculator counts every weekday in the range and drops federal holidays that land on a weekday. Holidays are worked out from the rules in 5 U.S.C. 6103 for any year from 1986 to 2100, so fixed dates like July 4 and floating ones like the fourth Thursday in November are always right.
Weekend holidays follow the OPM rule: Saturday moves to Friday and Sunday moves to Monday. When January 1 is a Saturday, the holiday is Friday, December 31 of the year before. Juneteenth is included from 2021, the year it became a federal holiday.
Things to keep in mind
Banks follow the Federal Reserve schedule, which does not move Saturday holidays to Friday. States, courts and private employers also set their own days off, such as the day after Thanksgiving.
Inauguration Day (January 20 after each presidential election) is a holiday only for federal workers in and around Washington, DC, so it is off unless you turn it on.
