How to use it

Type the student's name and the month, turn on the parent initials column if the teacher asks for it, and print. The page comes out as a blank table with enough rows for a month of reading. The minutes column is there because most elementary reading logs ask for time, not pages, but both are on the sheet.

If you would rather fill it in on screen, type one line per session in the entries box with the pieces separated by a vertical bar. The table adds up pages and minutes in a total row at the bottom.

Things to watch

Schools differ on what counts: some count only independent reading, others include being read to. Write the rule in the reading goal box so the log matches what the teacher collects.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print it blank?

Yes. Leave the entries box empty and the page prints with 18 empty rows. Leave the name empty too if you want to photocopy one sheet for the whole class.

How do I log a book read in several sittings?

One line per sitting with the number of pages read that time. The total row adds up pages and minutes and counts sessions, not books.

Is there a weekly version?

Use the period box for the week, such as 'Week of October 5', and fill five or seven rows. The extra empty rows do no harm.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
