What to do next

How it works

Your final grade is a weighted average: current grade ร— (1 - final weight) + final score ร— final weight. Solving for the final score gives the formula above. The table repeats it for 90%, 80%, 70% and 60%.

Example: a 72% going into a final worth 30% needs 65.33% for a C, 98.67% for a B, and more than 100% for an A.

Things to keep in mind

Some classes have rules this can't see, like a minimum final score to pass, a final that replaces your lowest test, or rounding up at 89.5%. Check the syllabus.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate what I need on my final?

Needed = (target - current ร— (1 - final weight)) รท final weight. With an 88% now, a final worth 25% and a goal of 90%, you need (90 - 66) รท 0.25 = 96%.

What if I need more than 100%?

Then the target can't be reached with the final alone. With 85% now and a 20% final, even a perfect score brings you to 88%.

Can I fail the final and still pass the class?

Often, yes. With 95% now and a final worth 10%, a 0 still leaves you at 85.5%.

What if my current grade doesn't include everything?

Use the grade calculator first with the work that is graded, then enter that grade here. Ungraded homework or projects make the result an estimate.
