What to do next

How it works

Each letter grade is turned into grade points, multiplied by the course credits to get quality points, and the total is divided by the credits that count toward GPA. Pass/fail, withdrawn and incomplete courses are left out.

GradePointsGradePoints
A+ / A4.0C+2.3
A-3.7C2.0
B+3.3C-1.7
B3.0D+1.3
B-2.7D1.0
D- / F0.7 / 0

Things to keep in mind

Some schools do not use plus and minus grades, and some round GPA differently. Repeated courses may replace the old grade at your school. Your registrar's transcript is the official GPA.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my GPA?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. An A in a 4-credit class and a B in a 3-credit class is (16 + 9) รท 7 = 3.57.

What is a B+ on a 4.0 scale?

3.3. The usual scale is A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D- 0.7, F 0.

Is an A+ a 4.0 or a 4.3?

At most colleges an A+ is 4.0, the same as an A. Some schools give 4.3, so pick the option that matches your catalog.

How do I calculate cumulative GPA?

Weight each GPA by its credits. A 3.2 over 60 credits plus a 4.0 over 15 credits is (192 + 60) รท 75 = 3.36.
