How it works

Add a Visio drawing (VSD) and click Convert. It is converted to one JPG image per page. Handy for pasting into chat, a blog post or a report.

Things to know

Browsers cannot open Visio files directly, so the conversion server renders the drawing to PDF first, and your browser then turns that into JPG. The original and the server result are deleted right after the conversion.

Special stencils, theme effects and fonts that are not installed on the server may come out slightly different.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open the file without Visio?

Yes. Add a VSD or VSDX file here and it is converted without Visio. Both the older .vsd format (Visio 2003 and earlier) and the .vsdx format (Visio 2013 and later) are accepted.

Some shapes look slightly different.

The drawing is rendered by LibreOffice rather than Visio, so special stencils, theme effects and fonts can come out a little different. Ordinary flowcharts, org charts and floor plans come through nearly unchanged.

Are my files uploaded? Do they stay on the server?

Yes, these files go through our conversion server because the formatting breaks when a browser does it alone. The file is placed in encrypted temporary storage. The original is deleted the moment the conversion finishes and the result PDF the moment this page downloads it. If you close the window midway, anything left is deleted automatically within a day. File names and contents are not logged. If a document holds sensitive data such as Social Security numbers, redact it before uploading.

What software does the conversion?

LibreOffice, the open source office suite, runs on the server and does the conversion. Macros are not executed. Fonts that are not installed on the server, such as Calibri or Malgun Gothic, are replaced with similar free fonts.

How many files can I convert per day?

Because the server costs money to run, you can convert 5 files a day without an account and 50 a day when signed in (one file counts as one conversion). Failed conversions do not count.
