What to do next
How it works
Choose an AAC file, enter where the ringtone should begin, and click Convert. The tool saves 40 seconds (or the length you chose) from that point in the iPhone ringtone format, M4R.
AAC audio is cut and moved without re-encoding, so it finishes in seconds and the sound is unchanged. M4A files work the same way.
Things to know
To install it, move the file over with Finder on a Mac or the Apple Devices app (iTunes) on Windows, or use the GarageBand app. The start point may be off by about 0.02 seconds.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get the M4R onto my iPhone?
Mac: connect the iPhone with a cable, select it in Finder, and drag the M4R file onto the General tab. Windows: do the same in the Apple Devices app (or iTunes). Then go to Settings, Sounds & Haptics, Ringtone on the iPhone and pick it. Without a computer, open the audio in the GarageBand app and use Share, Ringtone.
Why only 40 seconds?
The iPhone does not list an M4R longer than 40 seconds as a ringtone. The tool saves 40 seconds (or the length you chose) from the start point you set. Text and alert tones work best at 30 seconds or less.
Does the quality drop?
For an AAC file, the tool cuts the range and swaps the container to M4R without re-encoding, so the sound is unchanged. A file that is really an MP3 with an .aac extension is converted to AAC at 192kbps.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in this browser, and the file never leaves your device. The only download is the conversion engine, once. The result disappears when you close the page, so use the save button to keep it.
