What to do next
How it works
Choose an AAC file and click Convert to save it as 16-bit FLAC (lossless). Several files convert one after another.
Use it when the audio is going into a music editor or DAW, or when you want an archive copy that will not degrade with repeated saves.
Things to know
The quality does not improve. Whatever the original AAC already lost stays lost, and the file only grows 3 to 5 times. If you just want to listen, the original AAC is the better file to keep.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting to FLAC improve the quality?
No. AAC already discarded some of the audio when it was compressed, and converting to FLAC (lossless) does not bring that back. What you gain is a file that does not degrade further, so you can save it from an editor as many times as you like. The file usually grows 3 to 5 times.
Should I pick FLAC or WAV?
Both are lossless. FLAC is about half the size of WAV, which makes it better for archiving. WAV opens in nearly every editor. Use WAV for editing and FLAC for storage.
Does it play on an iPhone?
Recent iPhones (through the Files app), Android phones and computers mostly play FLAC. Older devices and some car stereos cannot.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in this browser, and the file never leaves your device. The only download is the conversion engine, once. The result disappears when you close the page, so use the save button to keep it.
