This shows the first part of each sheet as it prints on Letter paper. The file also has a how-to sheet and formulas, and every column fits one page width when you print from Excel.

How to use it

Choose how many criteria and candidates you want and download. The Criteria sheet lists each criterion, what to look for and its weight in yellow cells. Change the names and weights to fit the role; the Scorecard columns follow the names you type.

On the Scorecard, each candidate gets a row. Pick 1 to 5 for every criterion and the weighted score, the score out of 100 and the rank fill in. Type your recommendation and a short note about what drove the score.

Things to watch

Decide the criteria and weights before the first interview and use the same sheet for every candidate, or the ranks mean nothing. Keep notes about answers and examples, not about appearance or personal life. Delete the file when your hiring record retention period ends.

Frequently asked questions

What if the weights do not add up to 100?

The formula divides by the actual total, so the score is still right. Making them total 100 only makes the sheet easier to read.

How do I combine scores from several interviewers?

Copy the Scorecard sheet once per interviewer. When everyone is done, average the Score (out of 100) column across the copies in a summary sheet.

Can I use a 10 point scale?

Yes. Change the dropdown list on the rating cells to 1 through 10 and replace the /5 in the Score (out of 100) formula with /10.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
