What to do next
How it works
Weekly pay is your hourly wage times your hours. Overtime hours are added at 1.5 times the wage. Yearly pay is the weekly amount times the weeks you are paid for.
The other pay periods come from the yearly number: monthly is yearly divided by 12, biweekly by 26 and semimonthly by 24. Daily pay is weekly pay split across the days you work.
Things to keep in mind
Biweekly and semimonthly are different. Biweekly means 26 paychecks a year, so two months each year have three checks. Semimonthly means 24 checks, paid twice a month.
If your hours change from week to week, use an average. For a rough number, many people use 40 hours and 52 weeks and adjust from there.
Frequently asked questions
How much is $20 an hour a year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year before taxes. That works out to about $3,467 a month or $1,600 every two weeks.
Why multiply by 2,080 hours?
A full-time year is often counted as 40 hours times 52 weeks, which is 2,080 hours. If your vacation is unpaid or you work fewer hours, change the weeks or hours above and the total follows.
Does this include overtime?
Only if you enter it. Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 times your regular rate, which is the federal rule for hours over 40 in a week. Some states also pay overtime by the day.
Is this my take-home pay?
No. These are gross amounts. Federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state tax and any benefits come out before you get paid.
