This shows the first part of each sheet as it prints on Letter paper. The file also has a how-to sheet and formulas, and every column fits one page width when you print from Excel.

How to use it

Type the job site, the first day and how many days you want. You get a Daily report sheet with every date filled in, plus Crew, Equipment and Deliveries sheets. On the Daily report, fill in the weather, temperature, work completed, what is planned for tomorrow and any safety notes.

Log the crew by trade on the Crew sheet, machines on the Equipment sheet and material that arrived on the Deliveries sheet, each with the date. The Daily report adds up workers, crew hours, equipment and deliveries for the same date by itself, and the Period total row at the bottom covers the whole stretch.

Things to watch

Dates on the Crew, Equipment and Deliveries sheets must match the Daily report dates for the totals to work, so type them as dates, not text. Write down incidents, stop-work orders and inspector visits the day they happen; a daily report filled in later is worth much less in a dispute. If the owner or general contractor has a required daily report format, use theirs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print one day as a single report?

Filter the Daily report sheet to that date, then filter the Crew and Deliveries sheets to the same date and print the three together.

Can I change the list of trades?

Yes. Pick a cell in the Trade column on the Crew sheet, open Data Validation and edit the list. For a trade that is not in the list, choose Other and name it in the Work performed column.

How is this different from the work journal?

The work journal is one row per job or shift. The daily report is one row per day with weather, crew by trade, equipment and deliveries pulled together, which is what owners and inspectors usually ask for.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
