Lenders and programs may want their own format
SBA lenders, bank loan officers and accelerator programs often ask for a specific outline or a set of financial statements. Check what they want first and use this plan as the draft you copy from. Mark projections as estimates and say what they are based on.

1. Executive summary
Northwind Meal Kits delivers small-batch dinner kits that cook in ten minutes to one- and two-person households in Austin. We have sold 1,200 kits to 180 customers in a four-month trial with a 40% reorder rate. We are raising $100,000 to open a commercial kitchen and reach 500 subscribers by mid-2027.
2. Company description
Northwind Meal Kits LLC was formed in Texas in March 2026 and operates from a shared commercial kitchen in East Austin. Two founders own the company. We are past the trial stage and preparing for a full launch.
3. Product or service
Each kit holds pre-cut ingredients and a one-page recipe for one or two servings, delivered twice a week. Twelve recipes rotate monthly.
Six recipes and the packaging are final. The trial confirmed that ten-minute cook time and single-serving sizes are what customers mention first.
4. Market analysis
Single-person households make up 37% of Austin households (Census ACS 2024). They waste more groceries per person and lean on delivery, which costs $18 to $25 a meal.
Our first target is people who cook three or more nights a week and live within 15 miles of downtown, roughly 60,000 households.
5. Competition
National kit services ship weekly boxes sized for two to four people at $9 to $12 a serving. Local restaurants and delivery apps compete on convenience, not price.
We win on serving size, cook time and twice-weekly freshness, and we lose on menu breadth.
6. Marketing and sales
Subscription at $9.90 per single serving through our website, plus one-off kits at two local grocers.
First six months: 500 subscribers through cooking creators on social video, a referral credit of $10, and tasting tables at two farmers markets.
7. Operations
Prep runs Monday and Thursday in a leased commercial kitchen; two part-time cooks per run. Produce comes from two local wholesalers with next-day delivery. Routes are planned in delivery software and driven by a contracted courier.
8. Team
Jordan Lee, CEO: seven years in grocery buying and food distribution; owns sourcing and sales.
Taylor Kim, Head of Kitchen: ten years as a restaurant chef; owns recipes and food safety.
Hiring: a part-time marketing lead in the first half of 2027.
9. Financial projections
We are raising $100,000: $40,000 from the founders and $60,000 from a small business loan. The money goes to kitchen equipment, three months of inventory and the first marketing push. We expect monthly break-even in the second half of 2028.

How to use it
The sections are in the order most readers expect, so work from the top. Write the executive summary last, once the other sections are done, and keep it to one paragraph that says what you sell, to whom, why now and what you are asking for. Each section label shows a suggested word count; the preview tells you when you go over.
Add a row per year under financial projections with revenue and expenses in dollars. The table calculates net income and, with more than one year, a total row. Write the funding ask and the break-even point in the section text above the table.
Things to watch
Cite where market numbers come from, such as a Census table or an industry report, and label projections as estimates. A bank or SBA lender may want three years of monthly cash flow and a balance sheet in addition to this plan; ask before you submit.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a business plan be?
For a loan or a pitch, five to ten pages is typical. A one-page version works for a quick internal check; keep the section order and shorten each one.
How do I come up with the projection numbers?
Revenue is price times the number of customers times how often they buy. Expenses are cost of goods, people, rent, marketing and software. Type whole dollars and the table formats them.
Can I add sections?
Download the DOCX and add headings there. The numbered order carries over, so insert new sections where they fit and renumber.
Is what I type saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
