Measurable beats ambitious

A goal with a number and a date (three calls shadowed by day 10) can be checked at the 30-day review. A goal like get up to speed cannot. Three to five goals per stage is plenty.

How to use it

Type the start date and the plan works out the three stages: days 1 to 30, 31 to 60 and 61 to 90, each with its calendar range in the heading. Give each stage a one-word focus (Learn, Build and Lead are the defaults) and list its goals one per line as goal | action | how it is measured. Each stage becomes a three-column table, and a support box at the end records what the new hire needs from the company.

Review the plan together in the first week, sign it, and bring it to the 30, 60 and 90-day check-ins on the new hire checklist. For an interview, type the role instead of a name and bring the printed plan to the final round.

Things to watch

The first 30 days should be mostly learning: shadowing, meeting people, understanding the tools. If the 30-day table already contains delivery targets, the plan is probably too aggressive. Keep the measures observable so the manager can say done or not done without a debate.

Frequently asked questions

Why does day 30 fall on the 29th day after the start?

The start date counts as day 1, so day 30 is 29 days later. Day 60 and day 90 follow the same rule. If your company counts from the day after the start, shift the start date by one day.

Can I use it for a new manager rather than a new hire?

Yes. Change the focus words to fit, for example Listen, Decide, Deliver, and put team goals in the tables. The structure is the same.

What goes in How it is measured?

Something a manager can check on the day: a number, a finished document, a meeting that happened. Avoid words like understand or familiar unless there is a quiz or a demo behind them.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
