What to do next
How it works
The basic annuity is your High-3 average salary times your years of creditable service times the multiplier. Service is counted in full months. The multiplier is 1.1% only if you are 62 or older at separation with 20 or more years. Otherwise it is 1%.
The calculator checks which immediate retirement rule you meet: 62 with 5 years, 60 with 20, MRA with 30, or MRA with 10. Only the last one has a reduction, of 5/12 of 1% for each full month under 62.
Things to keep in mind
The result is the gross annuity. A survivor election, federal health and life insurance premiums and taxes come out of it.
If you leave before you qualify for an immediate annuity with at least 5 years of civilian service, you can take a deferred annuity at 62 with 5 years, MRA with 30, or MRA with 10 (reduced).

Frequently asked questions
How is the FERS pension calculated?
High-3 average salary ร years of service ร 1%. If you retire at 62 or older with at least 20 years, the multiplier is 1.1%. A $95,000 High-3 and 25 years at 60 gives $23,750 a year.
What is the FERS minimum retirement age?
It is 56 for people born 1953 to 1964 and rises by 2 months per birth year to 57 for people born in 1970 or later.
What is the MRA+10 reduction?
If you retire at your MRA with 10 to 29 years of service, the annuity drops 5% for each year you are under 62 (5/12 of 1% a month). At 57 that is a 25% cut, unless you have 20 years and start at 60 or later.
When can I retire under FERS with a full annuity?
At your MRA with 30 years, at 60 with 20 years, or at 62 with 5 years. None of these has an age reduction.
