A statement lists, it does not bill
Each invoice on the statement was already sent as its own bill. The statement shows the customer what is still open and the one amount that settles it. If a line is disputed, correct the invoice first and the next statement will follow.

How to use it
Type the opening balance from the last statement, then one line per invoice, payment, credit or fee in date order: the date, a short description with the invoice or check number, and the amount under charge or payment. The table shows the balance after every line, the period totals, and the amount due at the bottom and in the box at the top. Set a pay-by date and the statement asks for payment by then.
Under the cut line is a remittance slip with your address, the customer, the amount due and a box for the amount enclosed. Customers who pay by check tear it off and mail it with the payment, which makes matching the payment to the account easy.
Things to watch
Send statements on the same day each month so customers expect them. The Excel version keeps the running balance as a formula; add rows above the totals and copy the Balance cell down. Next month, start from this month's amount due as the opening balance, and send a late rent or past due reminder letter when the amount due is older than your terms.

Frequently asked questions
What goes in the description?
Enough for the customer to match the line to their records: the invoice number for a charge, the check number or ACH for a payment, and a word for fees or credits. The statement does not repeat the invoice line items.
How do I show a credit or refund?
Type it in the payment column with a description such as Credit memo CM-12. If payments end up larger than charges and the opening balance, the statement shows a credit balance and says no payment is due.
Can I include aging (30, 60, 90 days)?
Not on this template, because it would need a due date for every invoice. Type the oldest open invoice date in the note box, or use the accounts receivable aging sheet in the ledger templates.
Is what I type saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
