This shows the first part of each sheet as it prints on Letter paper. The file also has a how-to sheet and formulas, and every column fits one page width when you print from Excel.
How to use it
Pick the first month, how many months you want and the opening float. Each month gets its own sheet with the date, description, category, receipt number, money in and money out. The balance column is a formula, so it updates as you add lines.
At the end of the month, count the cash in the box and type the amount in the reconciliation block. If the difference is not zero, look for a missing receipt before you top the float back up.
Things to watch
Keep the receipts in the box with the log. Auditors and bookkeepers want the receipt number on the sheet to match a real slip. Do not change the formula cells, and copy an empty row rather than inserting a blank one so the balance keeps working.

Frequently asked questions
How much should the float be?
Enough for about a month of small purchases. Many small offices use $100 to $300. When it runs low, write a check for the amount spent, top the box back up and start the next month.
Can I add my own categories?
Yes. Pick any cell in the Category column, open Data Validation in Excel and edit the list. Or just type a category over the dropdown.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. The formulas are SUM and IF, which work the same in Google Sheets. You may need to re-create the dropdown list.
Is what I type saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
