RE: Notice to vacate, 123 Main St, Apt 4, Austin, TX 78701
Dear Taylor Kim, Northwind Property Management:
Please accept this letter as my 30-day written notice that I will vacate 123 Main St, Apt 4, Austin, TX 78701. My move-out date will be October 31, 2026, and I will leave the unit empty and clean by the end of that day.
Please return my security deposit, along with an itemized statement of any deductions, to my forwarding address: 4410 Oak Ridge Dr, San Antonio, TX 78230.
I would like to walk through the unit with you before I hand back the keys. Please let me know which days and times work for you.
I will return all keys, remotes and access cards on or before the move-out date. If you need anything from me before then, you can reach me at the contact information above.
Sincerely,
ย

How to use it
Type your name, the landlord or manager, the property address and the day you will be out. Pick the notice period your lease asks for, usually 30 or 60 days, and the letter states it in the first sentence. The forwarding address tells the landlord where to send the deposit and the itemized deductions, which most states require within a set number of days after you leave.
Print it, sign it and send it the way your lease says, often certified mail or hand delivery with a signed receipt. Keep a copy and note the date you sent it. The line at the bottom lets the landlord acknowledge receipt.
Things to watch
Read the lease before you pick the date. Many leases want notice on or before the first of the month, and a date in the middle of a rental period can leave you paying for the whole period. Leave complaints and remarks about the condition of the unit out of the letter; those belong in the walkthrough and in photos you take on your way out.

Frequently asked questions
How many days of notice do I need?
Whatever your lease says, as long as it meets your state's minimum. Thirty days is the most common for month-to-month tenants, but some leases and states ask for 60 and a few allow less. The warning under the preview tells you when the dates do not add up to the period you picked.
Do I need to give a reason?
No. Most states and leases do not require one, and the letter reads fine without it. If you add one, keep it to a sentence.
What if I am breaking the lease early?
Use the early lease termination letter instead. It asks the landlord to agree to an earlier end date and says what you offer in return. This notice is for leaving at the end of the lease or on a month-to-month tenancy.
