Sales tax depends on where you are
Whether you charge sales tax, and at what rate, depends on your state, your city and what you sell. Most services are exempt in most states. Type the rate your accountant gave you, or leave it at 0.

How to use it
Add your business details and the client's billing contact, then enter each line with a quantity and unit price. The invoice totals the lines, subtracts a discount if you give one, adds sales tax at the rate you type and shows the total due with the due date.
Use a numbering scheme you can keep up, such as INV-2026-041, and keep the PO number if the client gave you one; accounts payable teams match invoices to it. Net 30 is the common default for business clients. Freelancers often use Net 15 or due on receipt.
Things to watch
Send the PDF, not the editable file, so the numbers cannot change on the way. If you download the Excel version for your own records, the yellow cells are inputs and the blue cells are formulas.
An invoice is a request for payment, not a receipt. Once the client pays, send a receipt or mark the invoice paid with the date.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to charge sales tax?
It depends on your state and what you sell. Many states do not tax most services, and product sellers need a sales tax permit first. Ask your accountant or your state's department of revenue, then type the rate here.
What does Net 30 mean?
Payment is due 30 days after the invoice date. Type 30 in the Due in box and the due date is calculated for you. Use 0 for due on receipt.
Can I add my logo?
Not in the preview. Download the DOCX and insert your logo at the top in Word, then save as PDF.
Is what I type saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
