Ask the hospital what they provide
Most US hospitals supply diapers, wipes, pads, mesh underwear and a basic baby kit, and many have a list of what to bring on their maternity page. Call the labor and delivery unit or ask at the pre-registration visit so you do not pack what is already there.

How to use it
Type the names, the due date and the hospital. The checklist prints in five parts: for mom, for the partner or support person, for baby, documents and the car seat, each with a check box and a quantity. The due date gives a pack-by date at 36 weeks, which is when most providers suggest the bag is ready and by the door.
Add anything the preset is missing in the extra items box, such as a specific robe, a camera or a gift for an older sibling. Print one copy for the bag and keep the PDF on your phone so the support person can check it when the bag goes in the car.
Things to watch
Pack two bags: a small one for labor (ID, insurance card, chargers, snacks, lip balm) and the main bag that can stay in the car until you have a room. Leave jewelry and valuables at home. The car seat should be installed and checked well before the pack-by date, since you cannot leave the hospital with the baby without one.

Frequently asked questions
When should the bag be packed?
By 36 weeks. The form shows that date as Pack by. About one in ten babies arrive before 37 weeks, so earlier is fine, and a planned c-section or induction date replaces the due date in the field.
What about a c-section?
The list is the same. Add a few items in the extra box: high-waisted underwear that sits above the incision, a loose dress for going home, and slip-on shoes since bending is hard for a few days. Expect a longer stay, so pack an extra set of clothes for both of you.
Where do baby announcement and newborn photo things go?
Type them under For baby or make a new section called Photos in the extra items box. A new section name starts its own table.
Is what I type saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
