This shows the first part of each sheet as it prints on Letter paper. The file also has a how-to sheet and formulas, and every column fits one page width when you print from Excel.

How to use it

Type the date, the register and the cash in the drawer when you open. During the day, log each register batch, check, refund and payout on the Transactions sheet with the payment type. The Cash sheet totals sales by cash, card, check and other, subtracts cash refunds and payouts, and tells you how much cash should be in the drawer.

At close, count the drawer and type the number. The sheet shows whether you are over or short and how much cash goes to the bank after you hold back the float for tomorrow.

Things to watch

Card totals come from the terminal batch report, not from counting receipts, so run the batch before you close the sheet. Every payout needs a receipt in the drawer or the count will come up short with no explanation. If you use more than one register, make one sheet per register or add the register name to each transaction line.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the petty cash log?

The petty cash log follows one small box of cash over a month. The daily cash sheet closes out one business day: sales by payment type, payouts, and whether the drawer count matches.

Do I need a new file every day?

No. Copy the two tabs and change the date, or come back here and download again with the new date. If you copy tabs, check that the Cash sheet formulas still point to the same day's Transactions tab.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. SUMIFS, SUM and IF work the same in Google Sheets. You may need to re-create the dropdowns.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
