Say what the coupon does not cover

A coupon is a promise, so the details line matters more than the headline. Say what it applies to, any minimum, whether it combines with sale prices, and when it ends. Number every coupon so you can tell a copy from an original.

How to use it

Type your business, the offer in a few words, the conditions and an expiration date. Each coupon prints with the offer as the headline, the conditions under it, the date, and its own number counting up from the first number you give. Add a code if your register or website needs one. Three go on a page by default; more fit when the details are short.

Print on card stock or heavier paper and cut along the lines. To print a second sheet, raise the first number by the number of coupons on the page so the numbers keep counting.

Things to watch

Write down which numbers went where (a mailing, a market stall, a newsletter) and tick them off as they come back; that tells you which channel works. If you give coupons away free there is no gift card law to worry about; a coupon sold for money is a gift certificate, so use that template instead.

Frequently asked questions

How many coupons fit on a page?

Three fit with a two-line details box and the fine print. Four or five fit when the details are one line and the fine print is empty. The preview shows the page break.

Can I skip the expiration date?

Yes, leave it empty and the coupon prints No expiration date. Most businesses prefer a date, because an open-ended coupon can come back years later.

Why keep a serial number?

A number on each card lets you record which ones you handed out and spot copies. Keep a simple list of numbers, dates and names next to the printed cards.

How do I print more than one page?

Print the first page, then raise the first number by the number of cards you printed and print again. The numbers continue where the last page left off.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
