Empty leaves the dates line blank.

Food and water lines follow this number.

Sleeping bags, chairs, headlamps and meals are counted per person.

One line per category: Category: item, item. A new category name starts a new table. Add x 3 after an item for a quantity.

What you type is not saved on our server.

Check the park rules first

Fire bans, outside firewood rules, bear canister requirements and quiet hours differ by park and by season. Read the reservation confirmation and the park page before you shop.

How to use it

Pick tent, car camping or backpacking, type the nights and the number of people, and the list fills seven tables. Sleeping bags, headlamps and chairs are counted per person, and the meal and water lines come from nights times people. Backpacking drops the cooler, chairs and hatchet and swaps in a filter, a bear canister and dehydrated meals.

Print it and tick the boxes as gear goes in the car or the pack. The extra items box takes anything the preset does not know about: a kayak, a dog bed, a birthday cake. A to-do line at the end is for the reservation, the permit and who is bringing what.

Things to watch

Buy firewood near the park; most state and national parks ban wood from outside the area because of pests. Check the overnight low for the dates and match the sleeping bag rating to it. Leave a copy of your route and return date with someone at home when you go into the backcountry.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between tent and car camping here?

Both assume you drive to the site. Car camping adds the bulkier comforts: an air mattress and pump, a folding table, extra blankets and a hatchet. Tent camping keeps the lighter set for a walk-in site.

How much water should we bring?

The list uses one gallon per person per day for drinking and cooking, rounded up, when the site has no potable water. If the campground has a spigot, bring a jug and skip the gallons.

Can I use it for a group trip?

Print one copy per family for the personal and clothing tables, and use one shared copy for kitchen, tools and campsite. Write the name of who brings each shared item in the Qty column.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
