Two sides, one number
The bank side fixes the statement for things the bank has not seen yet. The book side fixes your records for things the bank did that you have not recorded yet. When both adjusted balances match, the account is reconciled and the interest and fees go into your books.

This shows the first part of each sheet as it prints on Letter paper. The file also has a how-to sheet and formulas, and every column fits one page width when you print from Excel.
How to use it
Type the account name and the statement date. On the bank side, enter the ending balance printed on the statement, then list the deposits you have recorded that are not on the statement yet and the checks you have written that have not cleared. On the book side, enter the balance from your checkbook register or ledger, then the interest the bank added and the fees it charged. Both adjusted balances are formulas, and the result cell says Reconciled when they match to the cent.
Work through the statement line by line, ticking each item off in your register as you go. Whatever is left unticked on the statement goes on the book side; whatever is left unticked in your register goes on the bank side.
Things to watch
A difference equal to one transaction means that item is on one side only. A difference divisible by 9 is often a transposed number, such as 54 typed as 45. Do not force a match by typing over the formulas; find the item. Once reconciled, post the interest and fees to your books so next month starts clean. The checkbook register template keeps the book balance you need for this sheet.

Frequently asked questions
A check from two months ago is still outstanding.
Keep listing it until it clears or you void it. If the payee says they never got it, stop payment with the bank, void it in your register and remove it from the list.
The bank shows a deposit I do not have.
That is a book side item: an interest payment, a refund or a transfer you forgot to record. Add it to the credits line, then record it in your books.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. SUM, ROUND, IF, ABS and TEXT work the same in Google Sheets, including the dollar format in the result cell.
Is what I type saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
