This shows the first part of each sheet as it prints on Letter paper. The file also has a how-to sheet and formulas, and every column fits one page width when you print from Excel.

How to use it

Type a name, pick the first month and how many months you want, and you get one sheet per month. Allowance and gifts go in the Money in column, purchases go in Spent, and the Balance column is a formula. The cells and letters are big enough for a kid to fill in.

On the first sheet, type the money the child already has in the Carried over cell at the top. Each following month pulls the previous balance in by itself. A saving goal at the bottom shows how much is still needed.

Things to watch

The Balance column is a formula, so do not type over it. If the balance does not match the cash in the jar, look for a missing line together. Printed, each month fits on one Letter page in portrait, so it also works as a paper tracker.

Frequently asked questions

What age is this for?

Kids who are learning to add and subtract, roughly first grade and up. Excel does the math, so they only write the date, what it was for and the amount.

Can we print it and write by hand?

Yes. The rows are tall and the file prints on one Letter page per month. Working out the balance by hand is good practice.

The next month does not show the carried over amount.

The formula looks for the previous month by sheet name. If you rename a sheet the link breaks, so leave the sheet names as they are.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. If you refresh the page it is gone, so print, save a PDF or download the DOCX when you are done.
