    What to do next

    How it works

Choose a GIF and click Convert to save it as a WebM video. WebM works well on web pages and in Discord, and it is far smaller than a GIF.

The frame order and timing of the GIF are kept. The size is rounded to even pixel dimensions to meet video requirements (a difference of 1 pixel at most). Several files convert one after another.

    Things to know

Video cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white or black. The video also does not loop on its own the way a GIF does; looping depends on the site or player.

    Frequently asked questions

What happens to a transparent GIF background?

Video cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the color you choose, white or black. Pick white if it will sit on a light page and black for a dark one. If you need the transparency, keep the GIF or use animated WebP instead.

Does the video loop like the GIF did?

A video file has no loop setting of its own, so it plays once and stops. iMessage, Instagram and X loop short videos automatically, and on a web page you can add the loop attribute to the video tag.

Why is the video so much smaller?

A GIF stores a full picture for every frame and is limited to 256 colors, which makes it large. Video codecs (H.264, VP8) store only what changed between frames, so the same clip is usually 5 to 10 times smaller and the colors look more natural.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in this browser, and the file never leaves your device. The only download is the conversion engine, once. The result disappears when you close the page, so use the save button to keep it.
